Welcome Class of 2017!

Many 1Ls arrive at HLS with a background or interest in education, but it can be hard to figure out how to stay involved, exactly what education law is, and how to best use a law degree to work in this area. Advocates for Education is a student organization that provides a community for students who share these interests and access to resources and opportunities for exploring these questions together. Throughout the year, A4E offers speaker events, panels on education career options, service opportunities, and student networking programs.

Past A4E events include documentary screenings, a 1L summer job panel, email updates with recent education news, food and dessert mixers for students to discuss education topics, education dinners bringing together students across Harvard graduate campuses, a visit to a local charter school, volunteering at a college and career readiness evening at the Dorchester Boys and Girls Club, and many more! A4E’s biggest event of the year is our annual conference. Last year, over a hundred students and community members registered and attended our second annual conference. A4E’s inaugural conference examined the school-to-prison pipeline, and our second conference focused on innovative school models. We are hoping to make our third annual conference this year even bigger and better, and we hope to see many of you there!

If you are interested in Advocates for Education, please look for our booth at the Student Organizations Fair, and join us for a kick-off event at the start of the year! A4E recruits 1L students interested in getting more involved with the organization as 1L representatives or conference committee members. If you would like more information, please feel free to email us at advforedu@mail.law.harvard.edu.
