In his 2010 State of the Judiciary report, Jonathan Lippman, Chief Judge of New York’s highest court, advocated for a guarantee that all have access to legal counsel in civil cases where basic needs are at stake–and since that report he has successfully campaigned for more funding for civil legal services. He will talk about challenges that advocates face in extending the right to a lawyer, and why access to justice is a requisite of our judicial system.
Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman will be introduced by Judge Peter Rubin.
