When the Supreme Court ruled in Ricci v. DeStefano that the New Haven Fire Department engaged in discrimination by throwing out results of a test that seemed to advantage white test-takers, it raised questions about the constitutionality of employment discrimination law long used to enforce the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and other race conscious but facially neutral practices. Yale Professor Reva Siegel will discuss the law and politics of Ricci, considered in historical perspective.
Professor Riva Siegel of Yale Law School: “Integration and Equal Protection: The Law (and Politics) of Disparate Impact”. Thursday, Oct 27, 12-1pm in Pound 107. Free lunch!
