Welcome to Harvard Law School!
The Committee on Sports and Entertainment Law (CSEL) brings together students and faculty who are interested in the intersection of the sports and entertainment industries and the law. Through speaker events, bi-annual symposia, and social and networking events, we at CSEL facilitate academic, social, and professional opportunities for our members.
Past CSEL guest speakers have included lawyers from large law firms serving sports and entertainment clients, agents, CEOs and General Counsels of teams and studios, representatives from sports leagues, players associations, and talent unions, and professors. We also host annual conferences for entertainment and sports law scholars and professionals. Our Entertainment Law Symposium takes place each fall, while the Sports Law Symposium takes place during the spring semester.
Many former members of CSEL currently work in the sports and entertainment fields both within and outside of the legal profession. Recently, CSEL has begun compiling a database of alumni working in the industries and each year we help connect students with alumni for internship and job opportunities. In the past CSEL members have interned for organizations such as MLB, the Washington Nationals, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Marvel, Lincoln Center, Warner Bros., NFL, the Celtics, and many others.
CSEL offers plenty of opportunities for 1Ls who are interested in learning more about the sports and entertainment industries. We would love to have your help in planning our events for the year and deciding which speakers to bring to campus. Additionally, CSEL works closely with the board of the Harvard Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law, which offers 1Ls a unique opportunity to play a large role in the selecting and editing of articles for a published journal. In recent years we have also expanded our relationships with like-minded groups at the Harvard Business School and the undergraduate campus in order to better integrate our small community and provide our members with more resources and cross-disciplinary opportunities!
Please don’t hesitate to contact any of us with questions and we look forward to meeting you!
