Welcome to Harvard Law School, and thank you for your interest in the Environmental Law Society (ELS)! We’re looking forward to meeting you and working with you throughout what is sure to be a very eventful school year.
It’s an exciting time to be studying environmental law at HLS, and ELS is thrilled to be a part of that. Our events calendar is always stacked with interesting, informative, and fun events—lecture series, networking opportunities, fall pumpkin carving, happy hours—but this year promises something really special: ELS will be hosting the National Association of Environmental Law Societies (NAELS) annual conference in March 2014. We’re honored to have been selected and very busy planning panels and speaker events on our chosen topic: environmental justice. We’ll be hosting a good number of big names in the field as well as local activists, and we’re hoping the experience will provide an invaluable opportunity to engage on this critical issue. It will also provide 1Ls with the chance to take on leadership roles and network with environmental law leaders at Harvard and beyond.
In addition to NAELS, we’ll have plenty of lunch talks and evening events focused on varying topics in environmental law. We’ll also be coordinating discussion between 1Ls and upperclassmen to offer guidance on topics such as summer employment opportunities and class selection.
Our first ELS meeting will be at 12:30pm on Wednesday, September 18th in WCC B105. We look forward to seeing you there. In addition, please be on the lookout for soon-to-come details about a welcome-to-HLS social event we’re planning. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All the best,
