What happens when I call?

A member of the Bureau will answer the phone and ask some basic questions about you and your case. Because we are only able to serve clients in certain areas and on certain matters of law, we may need to refer you if you do not meet our requirements. Should you meet the requirements, you will schedule an appointment to come to our office for an intake interview. Generally intake interviews take an hour, but they may be shorter or longer depending on the case.

When will find out if the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau accepts my case?

The Harvard Legal Aid Bureau reviews all potential clients weekly after both the telephone and intake interview have been completed. You can expect to hear if the Bureau has accepted your case approximately 7 to 10 days after the intake interview has been conducted.

My legal issue is pressing, will the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau be able to help me?

The Harvard Legal Aid Bureau is capable of expediting the intake process if you meet certain requirements. Should the Bureau be unable to accept your case, Bureau members will refer you to organizations and resources where help may be found.

Will my information remain confidential even if Harvard Legal Aid Bureau cannot accept my case?

The Bureau will keep information it recieves during the intake process confidential to the extent permitted by law.
