Dear HLS Class of 2016,

Welcome!  We know starting your 1L year can be intimidating, but don’t worry — you’re going to have a great time.  In case you’re not familiar with our organization, we are the Jewish Law Students Association, a group devoted to bringing Jewish law students together and celebrating Judaism on the Harvard Law School campus.  We organize a wide variety of events on campus including social events, bagel brunches, holiday parties, study breaks, and educational lunch speakers.

Usually we have a few weeks at the beginning of the year to meet everyone before the holidays, but because the High Holidays are so early this year we wanted to make sure that you all had the information you needed in order to celebrate the holidays in Cambridge. Here’s a couple things you can do.  First, check out the “Holidays” tab on the website (http://www3.law.harvard.edu/orgs/jlsa/holidays/), where we will be posting information about services and holiday meals in and around Cambridge.  Second, email Esther Silberstein (esilberstein@jd15.law.harvard.edu), our VP of Communications, to be added to our mailing list and subscribed to our google calendar (we know you all get a lot of email — we promise we’ll only clog your inbox about once a week!).  The week of Rosh Hashanah, we’ll be sending out our first email of the year with all the information you
could possibly need to celebrate the new year.

If you have any questions about the Jewish community in Cambridge, JLSA, HLS, or general tips on surviving 1L, feel free to contact anyone on the JLSA board (http://www3.law.harvard.edu/orgs/jlsa/about-us/board-members-2012-2013/). We’re here to make your HLS experience as easy and fun as possible. Enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to meeting you all in the Fall!

Sincerely,

Elina Kats & Rebecca Matte
