An Open Letter to Incoming 1Ls: Welcome from the WLA!

Welcome to the Harvard Women’s Law Association!

Congratulations on joining the Harvard Law School Class of 2016! We are looking forward to meeting you when you come to the Harvard campus this fall.

The WLA is the largest student organization at HLS and is devoted to advancing women at Harvard Law School, in the legal profession, and around the world. As such, we are here to support you in any way possible during your time at Harvard–especially during your 1L year. Whether you need advice–on what classes to take, how people prepare for 1L exams, or anything else–or just a friend to help your get acclimated or go on adventures with, we’re here to help.

This year, we will host a series of events on campus ranging from our Women’s Welcome Champagne Toast during the first week of school and the WLA’s eighth annual conference, to career development, academic advising, and volunteer and social events. While you’re already on our website, please make sure to stop by the home page to sign up for our newsletter and stay up to date on our programming. To learn more about how we do what we do, you can click over to our “About” tab and then to “Committees”. You can also click over to “Board Members” to see our current Senior Board. If you see any of us around campus, feel free to stop us and say hi!

If you have not done so already, we hope you’ll sign up for our mentoring program! Every interested 1L woman is matched with a returning 2L or 3L woman. It’s a great opportunity to have a friend at HLS even before you get to campus. You can sign up here:

We hope to see you at our Champagne Toast on September 12th. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the WLA or life at HLS, we hope you’ll reach out to us!

On behalf of the entire Harvard Women’s Law Association,

Nicole Kardassakis, Chair of 1L Committee
Nitzan Weizmann, President
Julie Siegel, Vice President
