Thank you for bringing awareness to the gender disparities at Harvard Law School. I enjoyed the film and hope that in future versions or revisions of it, you will be able to include male support. Women's issues are not only women's issues, they are society's issues. We need all of society on board to not only "shatter the ceiling" but to completely obliterate it!

I contacted the Law School Admissions Counsel this past summer in preparation for taking the LSAT with questions regarding accommodations for breastfeeding and was told none would be granted, but it was suggested that I make the request with the LSAC accommodations department. The required paperwork was submitted before the deadline to take the February test. December 19th I received a letter stating my request for accommodations was denied as breastfeeding was not a disability. While they allow an appeal, I became aware via the ACLU that the LSAC categorically excludes women who are breastfeeding from eligibility for accommodations. Taking the test without accommodations which allow me to breastfeed or express milk puts me at an obvious significant disadvantage, as the continuously increasing engorgement and discomfort will be distracting and painful. This leaves me with the choice of taking the test at this disadvantage, effecting my potential admissions and scholarship access, or delaying taking it and thus entering law school for another year. This deprives me of equal educational opportunities and also raises the spectre of Title IX violations.
This issue is time sensitive. The test is under 8 weeks away.
So far I have:
Contacted the US Attorney General's office who state as breastfeeding is not covered under ADA they cannot help
Contacted the ACLU about potential litigation. They already have a letter into the LSAC on this account.
Found an article in he Journal of Law & Policy, Lactation Litigation And The ADA Solution: A Response To Martinez v. NBC by Hilary Von Rohr (Vol. 4:341)
Contacted my congressional office who report that they have no real sway with a private entity such as the LSAC
Contacted La Leche League International and await hearing back from their legal department
You have my permission to publicize this information and any help would be much appreciated

Kristi, thank you so much for calling our attention to this issue! I too, immediately thought of all the accommodations the LSAC does provide for students, and also how easily a nursing mother could provide documentation from a doctor, if needed, and it just strikes me as astounding that LSAC refused to do so. It's hard in the face of something like this to not think LSAC does in fact have an invidious purpose towards young mothers. Here;s to hoping they do apologize to Ashley and that this doesn't continue to happen in the future.
